Of New Hope and Getaways

Am now in Brunei for a long holiday of rest and recuperation (well, if you can call spending time with kids a rest.....). How long you say? Well, let's just say it is uncharacteristically long enough for me that someone even remarked "oi, lamanya cuti!" Hehehehe.....

Anyway, mid-April I was holed in Crowne Plaza for 2 days for an innovation brainstorming session with a handful of personnel from the division, cherry-picked by the section heads to chart our innovation culture roadmap. And you know what? I loved it! It gave a ray of new hope for me, meeting like-minded persons within the company. As one participant said "I'm pretty sure that all of us in this room would have no problem finding a job elsewhere, but the fact that we're all still here speak volumes about our commitment to this company". Hell yeah!

Rushed to Kerteh after that to give a presentation to one of the plant's management team, then donned my "monkey suit" (aka Nomex plus safety gears) for a "climbing exercise" session in two plants. Now I tell ya, this job ain't for the faint-hearted..... imagine climbing up about 5 storey's high using a monkey ladder (that's vertical!) without anything to stop you from slipping down apart from your own hands and legs..... :)

After that, rushed back to KL and carpooled from KL to our university up north in Perak for an exhibition. I sat back and enjoyed the ride on the way there (which is a rarity, as I normally would insist on driving - guess I was pooped from all the climbing). It was a fantastic visit - wished I could've stayed longer. Anyway, I drove on the way back, which was good considering that it was pouring heavily.....

Next morning, rushed to the airport for my flight to Brunei. I tell ya, this lifestyle is definitely tiring!

Burnout!!!

I'm officially burned out! Drove home today with the thought of quitting my job swirling in my head. Too much work, so little rest and virtually zero personal time can seriously do your head in, I tell you.

I'm feeling envious of my colleagues, who somehow managed to take time off and fly away somewhere nice to unwind. One flew to Bandung last weekend for shopping excursions, another is going to the UK for two weeks, one went off to good ol' USA also for two weeks, and yet another flying off Down Under also for two weeks' worth of leave.

Damn, I need some time off...... I had to work in Kerteh on F1 day last weekend, and I tell you, that probably drove me nuts!
